GBR Match Race Girls

Am I in the UK still? Since returning from Kiel last Thursday we have had fantastic weather and I’m hoping it is going to stay for our next training session starting tomorrow in Weymouth. This weekend I had the chance to do some fleet racing for once, sailing with Louise Morton on Morty’s Quarter Toner ‘Anchor Challenge’ (instead of her sister-ship ‘Espada’). We had a lovely weekend on the Solent with great sea breezes each day, and most importantly we showed the guys how it should be done by winning class 3.

Tomorrow the squad are back down to Weymouth for 5 days training before our team heads off to the Stena Line Match Cup Sweden which starts on Monday. This year for the first time the Women’s event will be held in Elliott 6Ms instead of the DS37s which the Open fleet will be racing. We are looking forward to competing in a non World Cup Regatta again for a bit of a change!

Well we have finally reached home after a long road trip in the Transit Van back from Kiel and I’m afraid the final day was not such a good one for us. Going into the day 2-1 up in our quarter finals we were looking to win one more against Tulloch(USA) to qualify through to the finals however it was not to be, in more light and shifty conditions we didn’t quite get the starts we wanted and were unable to get back to challenge the lead. A disappointing end to a good week for us really but further areas we can work on have been highlighted to us and we’ll get straight to work on them next week in training! In the finals Skudina (RUS) beat Leroy (FRA) to win overall and Tunnicliffe (USA) won the petite finals.

A few days off for me now which I’ll be racing the Quarter Tonner ‘Esparda’ in, and then we’ll be training again towards the end of next week. Good to be home though and watch a bit of Wimbledon!
