Day 1 in Kiel

Saturday 19th June, 2010

It’s an early finish for us on day 1 of Kiel week as our group (A) were on first this morning for the start of our round robin. In 14–20 knots offshore – very gusty and shifty conditions we were pleased (and relieved!) to finish the day with 3 wins out of 3 against the Chinese, Greek and other British team.

Tomorrow our group will be out second and we’ll be aiming for some more wins against some tough competition to finish the group in the top two to qualify straight through to the quarter finals… we’ll also be hoping for some more sun and the breeze to stay up!

Glamour conditions in Weymouth Bay

Tuesday 15th June, 2010

Another glorious day of sun andwind in Weymouth Bay today for our training against Ian Williams.

Ian is down for a couple of days having just returned from Korea Match Cup where he earned 2nd overall and has jumped into the slightly smaller Elliott to force us to sharpen up our skills ahead of Kiel Week! Tomorrow we’ll be out on the water early again for some start training before going back home to pack and then leaving in the early hours on Thursday headed for Kiel. Ally, Annie and I are switching arounda bit for the regatta to build on the areas we worked on during Holland where Nicky Muller stood in for Annie. This time however Ally will be crewing for the other British team and joining Annie and I will be my younger sister Kate who has been training alongside the squad since finishing summer term at University. Don’t worry we got all the sister squabbles out the way when we sailed Mirrors together years ago!

Still #1

Thursday 10th June, 2010

The latest ISAF World Rankings have just been released and I’m pleased to say Annie, Ally and I are still holding the top spot!

After having Nicky Muller stand in for the the last regatta in Holland, we have been reunited with Annie this week and are having a really productive week training in Weymouth. On Monday and Tuesday Annie hadn’t quite made it back so Ally and I were joined by guest star Charlotte Lawrence for a bit of time and distance work then Annie joined us yesterday and we’ve had some good boat handling sessions with a great mix of breeze. Unfortunately for me today I took a little swim while doing a tacking exercise, the toe strap disappearing before me at just the wrong time! Tomorrow we’ll be out again then we’ll be starting preparations for our next World Cup event in Kiel, Germany starting at the end of next week.

I can hear the rain starting outside…lets hope that fades before tomorrows training!

A couple of days rest.

Tuesday 1st June, 2010

After our actioned packed finals on Sunday we had the joy of loading our Elliotts (which were used for the Delta Lloyd Regatta) in containers yesterday and arrived home late last night. Ally and I now have a couple of days off before starting training again at the end of the week once we have our boats back. Annie is still in Sardina at the moment at the Louis Vuitton Regatta and so we will be reunited next week.

Once through to the Semis having won both the quarters and semis 3-0, silver was a disappointing end to our event really, especially it having been so close and loosing on a couple of critical moments. Thanks to Nicky though for sailing with Ally and I for the week, it was a great opportunity for us to sail in a slightly different format and Ally and I learnt of lot from the week. Pleased to be back on the podium!
