Well, when we were doing our planning for the Semaine Olympique Française, the second European stop of the year on the ISAF Sailing World Cup tour in Hyeres, France, Ally and I driving here and certainly Annie cycling, yes that’s right cycling here, was definitely not in the plan!
For Ally and I it was an easy switch into one of the Skandia Team GBR vans to avoid the current airport chaos. However as you may have seen from the twitter feed or our Facebook fan page, for Annie who was racing an 82ft Swan in Palma last week the trip to Hyeres was not so simple. After a night sail across to Barcelona, train towards the border, cycle to France, bus scarily close to going back towards Spain then a mixture of train and cycling on the final day, Annie finally arrived in one piece after a monumental effort!
We are now preparing for this next Olympic Classes Regatta, starting on Sunday. Training for us will start on Friday when we’ll be looking to get a feel for the local conditions having never raced very close in to the shore at Hyeres before. I have to admit I’m hoping for some good breeze this week as it has been a while since we raced in much but we’ll have to see what the weather Gods deliver.
We’ll keep you posted with how our preparations are coming on. We’re hoping the event will not be too disturbed by recent events however unfortunately it is likely some people will not make it. As for Annie’s adverture, we’ll try and get the day by day account to you!
