• Match Racing Campaign for the Olympics in 2012

The GBR Match Race Girls are one of the top International Women's Match Racing Teams and have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in this exciting new sailing discipline. Having gained National, European and World Championship titles, and rapidly risen through the ranks to lead the World Rankings, Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor are a promising prospect for the future of British Sailing.

Since learning to sail in Poole Harbour as children, Lucy and Annie have always been a driven individuals. After a successful youth sailing career for Lucy, and gaining 'blues' in three sports at Cambridge University for Annie, they both entered a full-time Olympic campaign with Shirley Robertson for Beijing 2008. In 2009 Lucy and Annie launched their own campaign for Gold in 2012, in the new discipline of Match Racing. In 2010 they were joined by Lucy's younger sister Kate, who is herself a top crew in her own right having won a number of championship titles and Gold at the 2007 Olympic Youth Festival in Australia.

Back to sunny Palma

Thursday 10th March, 2011

After a short rest Annie, Kate, Maurice and I are back to the sun in Palma (I’m ignoring the forecast of rain tomorrow!) for another session training. Our block of training is split into two this time with the first half just the four of us working on some techniques for boat handling and speed and then next week we are joined by training partners and Ian Williams for some more tactical based work.

Today was our first day back on the water here and I have to say, as good as it is having training partners here, it was great to finally be just the three of us and Maurice working together on the water This was a first on two accounts, one the first day just the four of us since Maurice joined us and also our first full day together since Annie’s accident. We look forward to many more!

On a sadder note, in January one of our greatest supporters from the City Livery Yacht Club, Clifford Champion past away. Since the Yacht Club started supporting us last year, Clifford’s enthusiasm and great generosity with his time helping support our team were fantastic and he will be greatly missed. He truly believed in us as a team- now we will definitely have to win Gold!

The picture below shows one of our fantastic days sailing with Clifford and other members of the City Livery Yacht Club. Following his Memorial Service this week, our thoughts are with his Family and Friends.

Facebook Imposter

We are very sorry to report that Annie’s personal Facebook profile has been cloned resulting in the distribution of some offensive messages. We sincerely hope that no-one has been affected by this unpleasant situation.

New training partners arrive

Saturday 19th February, 2011

The past few days have been windy and wavy in Palma for our first session of training here.  Today we had a great day with blue skies sun, wind and some friends to play with!  Over the weekend we are joined by the Monin Brothers from Switzerland to kick us into shape a bit – as they are a strong team on the men’s circuit.

Highlights of the last few days included Lucy falling in just to give us a bit of a laugh and three different languages being spoken at the table at one time!

The apartment is starting to feel like home a bit more now, Mary has been doing a grand job in the kitchen cooking dinner and an even better job helping us out on the water while Annie recovers. The view from the balcony is pretty cool too…

Gorgeous day ‘in the office’

Sunday 13th February, 2011

The first day training here for us today in Palma and we couldn’t have asked for better conditions, waves, sun and 10 knots greeted us as we turned the corner out of the harbour in S’Arenal, it was b-e-a-utiful!

Today was about checking over the boat making sure everything is in working order and getting Annie back sailing for a bit, before the hard work starts tomorrow! We are expecting a little more breeze over the next few days while we are training on our own and then at the end of the week we have some boys (or should I say men!?) coming out to sail against us.

The new coach is in, our Elliotts are all set up and our apartment is slowly becoming home, so bring on the next two months training!
