Day 2 goes to plan

Friday 3rd December, 2010

Conditions became even shiftier yesterday in day 2 of the Carlos Aguilar Regatta in St Thomas. We started the day racing two of the American teams, beating Genny Tulloch but losing out to Sally Barkow in the light and fickle breeze.

That concluded the first round robin, putting us in 2nd behind Sally on 6 — 1. We then went straight into the second round robin where we won all three of our races despite going from a run, to beat, to reach, to run, all on the first ‘downwind’ leg!

Tomorrow we’re scheduled to be sailing in the afternoon, where we will continue with the second round robin and maybe start the semi finals depending how times goes.

Keep up to date with all the action (Men around 1300 GMT, Women 1730 GMT) by watching the live video feed online!

Strong start in St Thomas

Thursday 2nd December, 2010

Annie, Kate and I are now in St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands having completed Day 1 of the Carlos Aguilar Regatta. Sailing with us this week is an American, Katie Storck on the IC24 (basically a J24 hull with a new design cockpit).

We had a strong start to the regatta today, sailing in the afternoon in crazy conditions with numerous shifts and pressure changes, we won all five of the races we sailed in the start of the first round robin. Tomorrow we will race in the morning against the two top American teams here before starting another round robin. The racing is all shown live on the Internet so tune in to watch some mad shifts!

Recruited a 4th while training in Miami

Tuesday 30th November, 2010

Prior to travelling to St Thomas (US Virgin Islands) for an event tomorrow evening, Annie, Kate and I have run away from the snow at home and are doing three days training in Miami on the way. The conditions have been fantastic so far, yesterday I was given 25 degrees and 10 knots for my birthday, and we had similar today. We are currently working on some boat handling with just one boat but we will be back after competing at the Carlos Aguilar Regatta to do some two boat training.

The photo shows a friend we recruited to come sailing with us yesterday!

Back training… in Barcelona

Tuesday 16th November, 2010

After a few events in different boats and a couple of fantastic dinners with The Royal Thames and The City Livery Yacht Clubs, Annie, Kate and I are back in the Elliott 6m this week training alongside the Russian team in Barcelona.

Today we had ideal conditions with a light breeze and a bit of swell we raced all day, putting ourselves under a bit of pressure and remembering how to sail the Elliott 6M again!  The Russians have had a great year with results so we’re looking forward to the week focusing on some boat handling and speed work, much of which Annie and I have had very little time working on so far with Kate.

We’ll keep you posted,
