Windy Weymouth

Thursday 6th October, 2011

We’ve been getting the training hours in during the last two weeks in Weymouth in amazing conditions. Last week during the ‘heat wave’ we trained with the laser radial girls which I have to admit was quite entertaining at times, but a great week despite it starting with a fitness test!

This week the heater has been turned down a little so the shorts and t-shirts have been put away for another few months but the breeze has been awesome. The last two days we have had 20–30 knots while training against the Russian team and a couple of wipe-outs to go with it!

Tomorrow it looks like the wind should die a little (below 20knots at least!) so hopefully we will head out to the Nothe course where the spectators will be next year and beat the Russians in some training races!

Not missing the 35knots at home!

Saturday 10th September, 2011

Well I have to admit that when we arrived in Sheboygan last week and it was freezing cold, I didn’t think we would end up having as good a week as we have! While its been blowing dogs off chains at home, we have had a fantastic week of 15–20 knots every day, and gorgeous sunshine! Training against the Americans we feel we have achieved quite a lot this past week and now we are enjoying a day off before heading to Chicago. On Sunday and Monday we will race in an open grade 2 in Chicago, in Tom 28 boats and we’ll be sailing with our coach, Maurice.

Once that regatta is finished we have had a slight change of plan and will now be heading back up to Sheboygan to race in the Open division of the ISAF Nations Cup Grand Final. With there not being much racing until the World Championships in December it will be a great opportunity to get some racing in against some different opposition.

We’re really looking forward to heading Chicago later today… and maybe a spot of shopping along the way! We’ll keep you posted on the racing too though.

Arrived in America

Monday 5th September, 2011

Despite my bag not quite having arrived yet, Annie, Kate, Maurice and I are now waking up in Sheboygan, USA ready to start training today against the American team of Sally Barkow. Forecast is looking good for the week so it should be a great way of getting back into training after a short break. Sheboygan is not the most exciting place in the World but we’re looking forward to being in Chicago next week!

Test event on BBC1 — Sat 1pm

Friday 19th August, 2011

This Saturday (20th Aug) there is a hour-long review on BBC1 starting at 1pm of the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta — the “test event” for the Olympics next year.

While we’re still disappointed with our performance at the event, being knocked out at the Quarter Final stage, we remain confident and focussed on our training and will be working hard on the areas in which we need to improve. Check out the summary from Team Volvo for Life below…

Next week all three Macgregor sisters will be sailing against each other, crewing at the RS200 National Championships at the Olympic venue in Weymouth.
